Education:
-Ph.D., California Institute of
Technology
-B.S., University of Science and
Technology of China
Research Interests:
Dr. Fang current
research interest is on bio-engineering
high performance microbial strains
for Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery
(MEOR). He is co-principal investigator
of MEOR research projects at PEER
Center that are supported by the
Department of Energy and major
oil companies. He has broad experience
in the area of biochemistry, molecular
biology and genetics. His other
research interests include:
-Fundamental scientific studies
of CH4 generation by methanogenic
bacteria at thermophilic conditions
and its application in the bio-solid
waste treatment.
-Study how CO2 reduction occurs
and how CH4 is generated by methanogenic
bacteria during an uncommon bio-methanogenesis
process at Illinois Basin.
-Heavy oil bio-upgrading through
biological desulfurization and
removing heavy metal contents
in the crude oil.
