Flow Assurance
(FA) -- Prevention of Wax Deposition
|
|
As produced oil
cools, wax may begin to drop out
of solution and deposit on the pipe
walls. This is a high risk in pipelines
that are submerged in deepwater
where the surrounding temperature
is about 40° F. PEER studies
are focused on novel measurement
methods and inhibitor chemistries
to prevent wax accumulation even
under such challenging conditions.

| Novel "Cold Disk"
Wax Deposition Apparatus (CoDWaD)
|
|
|
| Oil is placed into
the cell. An impeller rotates so
the fluids move to mimic the fluid
velocity in a pipeline. The cell
and cold plate are at a constant
temperature. Wax that deposits on
the test cold plate are analyzed
for total amount and composition.
