Flow Assurance (FA) -- Prevention of Wax Deposition
As produced oil cools, wax may begin to drop out of solution and deposit on the pipe walls. This is a high risk in pipelines that are submerged in deepwater where the surrounding temperature is about 40° F. PEER studies are focused on novel measurement methods and inhibitor chemistries to prevent wax accumulation even under such challenging conditions.
Novel "Cold Disk" Wax Deposition Apparatus (CoDWaD)
Oil is placed into the cell. An impeller rotates so the fluids move to mimic the fluid velocity in a pipeline. The cell and cold plate are at a constant temperature. Wax that deposits on the test cold plate are analyzed for total amount and composition.
